Amsterdam Gay Pride is held every year as a celebration of equality for the gay, lesbian and transgender communities. The event ends with a very flamboyant canal parade, and there is a whole week of parties and other events that lead up to the big weekend festivities. Amsterdam has been a welcoming and safe environment for gays, lesbians and transgenders for many years and is famous for its liberal mindedness.
