Points 23rd Annual Conference of Alzheimer Europe which will take place in St. Julian's, Malta from 10 to 12 October 2013.
This year, our conference is set under the motto "Living well in a dementia-friendly society".
We will explore how our perceptions and image of dementia have an impact on the lives of people with dementia and their carers. We will showcase examples of good practice with regard to the involvement of people with dementia in activities and projects and the establishment of dementia friendly communities.
The importance of ethical issues and a rights-based legal framework will also be addressed. By putting people first, we want to ensure that our conference will provide useful advice and develop recommendations on how to improve the quality of life of people with dementia.
Innovation, prevention and integrated care are additional key themes of our conference. These have been identified as priorities by the "European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing" and this conference hopes to establish links with and provide input to this key initiative of the European Commission.
In this context, we would also like to thank the generous support provided by the health programme of the European Union for our conference. It is thanks to this support that we are able to offer very competitive registration rates to all participants.
Our conferences have established themselves as great networking opportunities and we hope that this year will be no different. The call for abstracts is now open and we are expecting to receive a high number of presentations on innovative projects, care approaches and prevention strategies.
