Latest rankings and reviews by Scotjock1:Resin Coffee Shop, another one of my visits with it's neon-green interior and vibe. That's about it's only positive aspect.
Abraxas Too is nearby to Resin, and is far better in customer service and price. The moment I walked into Resin, one of the staff a Middle-Eastern guy served me, I bought a pre-rolled Joint and some drinks and snacks but he was very rude, and agreessive towards me even though I was a paying customer. It was as if he didn't want to serve me, and reluctantly took my money with greed and sneer.
So I am sat at a couch smoking my Pre-rolled Joint with about 10 Euros in snacks and drinks. I run out of cash, so I decide to go to Amsterdam Centraal station for an ATM. I get back within ten minutes, and my lighter, papers, filters and a bag of SSH half-depleted that I bought in Abraxas Too is gone, most likely fallen out of my pocket.
No lighter, no papers, no filters and no bud I felt used and treated like crap and walked out back to my hotel.
Did the owner not think to put that stuff aside behind the bar, when I told him I would be back and hand it back to me when I returned. No, instead he pockets my SSH and tools needed to smoke. I felt devastated by this lack of care towards a customer, especially one who is obviously new to the scene in Amsterdam and complete betrayal and so I am never returning to Resin and hope it shuts down if the same staff there still work there, and will definitely bypassing it for Abraxas Too.
Resin was a rip-off in Oct 2014, I do hope no one has the same experience if it is still open for business but I will not be returning because of this experience.
As for it's menu and price, the pre-rolled Joint I bought was a White Widow, basic and yet it was 1 Euro more in price than Abraxas was. Again a sure sign of mismanagement, and it's tendancy to rip-off it's tourist customers.
Another reason to avoid Amsterdam Centraal for Coffee Shops, with high prices and poor customer service. I recommend people to visit Abraxas Too instead.
Full Review & Rating BreakdownAgain like another of my reviews when I visited Abraxas, the main Coffee Shop I also visited Abraxas Too twice in the same visit.
It's much smaller in size, and space compared to it's bigger brother. But you still have stools, and chairs to sit on at the bar and order your drinks and smoke. It's similar in decor as it's big brother, with the whole Amazonian style which really puts you at ease inside.
As for the menu it is exactly the same as it's big brother, basic strains as well as Space Cakes, Hashes and Pre-rolled Joints. Nothing different whatsoever between both menu's, only the size of the premises.
Here I bought pre-rolled Joints of Haze, Skunk, White Widow and Pure versions of these strains as well as mixed-shag. Again the same prices as the bigger Abraxas, most mix-shag Joints with tobacco being 3.50 Euros and upwards.
Customer service was very impressive, a Dutch staff member walked me through things as this was my first stop in a Coffee Shop in Amsterdam. He pointed me to pre-rolled Joints, recommended mix-shag ones and I bought a White Widow mix-shag Joint for just 3.50 Euros, I was back within 90 minutes buying half a dozen pre-rolled Joints. Again for my second visit, he was happy to help me and gave me one Joint of each strain they were selling.
Location is prime, being so close to Amsterdam Centraal Train station it's possibly your first stop before entering the city centre. It's located down a quiet street near Resin Coffee Shop, and quite rightly I prefer Abraxas to Resin which I will cover in another review. Being in such a quiet, somber street you can relax if you're smoking inside or taking it home with you.
Price, again Abraxas is aimed at tourists, not locals and so the prices are as steep as their bigger site in the city centre.
Overall Abraxas Too if it is still there, which I hope so is a perfect companion to it's bigger brother if you're not near the city centre but near the train station.
I would advise it for both smoking inside for a brief session, or take your bud home with you. Again not for locals who know of better places, but perfect for tourists fresh off the plane or train.
Full Review & Rating BreakdownAbraxas is well located in the central Amsterdam, around the city's government buildings and near the major hotels. But location doesn't mean it's cheap, as I am always told that Central Amsterdam is very expensive compared to places outside of the city's central limits.
I visited it back in Oct 2014, and I stuck only to pre-rolled Joints, but also bought some Super Silver Haze. It was very comfortable, very friendly staff when you needed something they were there. You could chill out at the bar with a drink and a Joint, or sit upstairs on their second floor in more comfortable surroundings.
As for price and menu, it is quite steep in price especially for a central based location but if you're restricted to the city centre it's good enough, I have seen more pricier places.
There's an adequte menu of the basics, for brand new smokers or tourists to the city but again they are aiming for tourists, not locals.
So prices are steep for a gram, pre-rolled Joints are cheap but then again we all know sometimes they put bad quality bud in them. Pre-rolled Joints cost around 3.50 Euros each, and more if you go for pure or special strains.
The SSH I bought was strong, covered in crystals and strong and it was worth it's price as a first-time goer to the city. It cost just 13.50 Euros, again it's aimed at tourists and visitors and not locals.
I am visiting again very soon, I will see how much it has changed since last year and since it's temporary closure as it's near where I am staying.
For first-timers to the city it's worth going inside to buy some bud, but stick to one gram or two, no more as you can find other strains if you look around.
But it was a great experience, free WiFi makes it worth visiting as you can pop on Spotify and some headphones and smoke away in bliss. Currently as I write this review I am in Abraxas and for another trip to the Dam I came to Abraxas again. It's like the friendliest, simplest and most socially enjoyable experience you'll get. With every passing trip I return to Abraxas for the majority of my time there. It's a comfortable, secluded yet open coffeeshop that appeals new newbies and even more experienced smokers. Going to the Dam should make you think of Abraxas as your first stop, or regular stop. It does for me, nostalgia and even personal comfort when I enjoy my Weed. Again everything is well run, and homely. There's a continuing good menu of strains at good prices that put other Dam coffeeshops to shame. Quality is the priority as is the environment you smoke in. Make Abraxas your regular stop, like you would a bar or pub. I'll keep coming here for years to come.
